My Printmaking Creative Process

I make every print by hand from start to finish. First, I carve the design into a linoleum block using sharp gouges — getting the Frenchie’s stance just right, that low-slung confident posture mid-roll, took a good few attempts. When the block is ready, I use a brayer to roll a thin, even layer of ink across it and carefully lay a sheet of acid-free paper on top. Then I apply pressure to transfer the image. The final step is peeling back the paper to reveal the print. My hands are involved in every single step. Because of this, every print carries its own small variations — tiny imperfections that make it genuinely yours, not mass-produced.

French Bulldogs have a particular kind of swagger. It’s in the way they walk — chest out, ears up, completely unbothered. So when I imagined one on a skateboard, it just made sense. Of course a Frenchie would skateboard. Of course he’d be good at it.

I carved this print thinking about the joy of movement, of rolling without a care, of being completely in the moment — which, if you’ve ever spent time with a French Bulldog, is basically their entire personality. This one is called “Keep Rolling” and that’s exactly the energy it carries.
